Quick Fire Whisky Tasting Notes

Pintail Glen Elgin 14 Year Old
Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
54.1% ABV / RRP: £80.00

Nose: A full-on fruit-based offering of ripe conference pears, strawberry jam tarts, cherry turnovers, blackberry fool and orange peel. Followed by wondrous waves of toffee apples, sugared almonds, Fry’s Turkish delight, Haribo Tangfastics and ginger nut biscuits. The nasal nicities then conclude with pink peppercorns, balsamic vinegar, freshly polished oak, wood spice and oodles of red wine influences.

Palate: Even more fruit-based fabulousness, with strawberry tarts dusted with ground pimento, Summer pudding, Müller Corner Red Cherry Yogurt, orange oil and dapple dandy plums. The palatable pleasures continue with McDonalds apple pie, creamy toffee, Cadbury Bournville fruit and nut bar, aniseed twists, along with Jamaica ginger cake, clove, wood spice, tobacco leaf, and a plethora of tannic and vinous influences.

Finish: A full-on and fabulous finish, that just keeps on delivering and highlighting all of its decadent deliciousness!

Summary: It’s not often that you get to sample a genuine whisky first, but for our recent Whisky Cellar Tweet Tasting, we did exactly that, with this Pintail Glen Elgin 14 Year Old. The first single malt Scotch whisky to be matured/finished in Floc de Gascogne Rouge barriques, from the Côte de Gascogne and Armagnac regions of South West France. Richly rounded and truly epic it is too! It’s also a testament to the striving of dramming excellence by The Whisky Cellar, who in our opinion continue to be one of the most exciting indie bottlers on the block!
