The Islay-based Bruichladdich Distillery has announced the launch of a new global travel retail exclusive release.
Bruichladdich Organic Barley 16 Aged Years (50% ABV) is a single malt Scotch whisky crafted from 100% organically grown malting barley and matured exclusively in ex-Bourbon barrels.
The B Corp-certified distillery began working with Mid Coul Farm in Inverness, Scotland, to grow organic barley in 2003. Committed to delivering unparalleled flavour and full traceability while championing sustainable agriculture, this latest release showcases Bruichladdich’s long-term dedication to reconnecting land and dram.
Fully traceable from farm to glass, the Organic Barley 16 Aged Years has spent its entire maturation on Islay. The ex-Bourbon barrels are said to have imparted smooth vanilla cream notes and subtle wood spices to the final whisky, beautifully complementing—without overpowering—the clean, cereal-forward spirit.
Following the success of last year’s ‘Not Your Classic Whisky’ activation programme for The Bruichladdich Twenty One and The Classic Laddie Sherry Cask Edition, this latest expression from the progressive Islay distillery made its debut earlier this month at Singapore Changi Airport. The launch is in partnership with LOTTE DUTY FREE Singapore, as part of a two-month exclusive listing period.
Commenting on the launch, Adam Hannett, Head Distiller at Bruichladdich, said: “We’re passionate about creating the most thought-provoking spirits, and that starts with our essential raw ingredients. Great consideration is given to the barley varietals we distil, as well as where and how the grain is grown. With a complex and nuanced flavour profile, organic malting barley is a great example of a naturally grown cereal that not only tastes incredible but also offers long-term environmental benefits.”
Bruichladdich Organic Barley 16 Aged Years will initially be available exclusively at Singapore Changi Airport, before rolling out across global travel retail outlets. RRP (tbc).
