The Derbyshire-based White Peak Distillery has announced the launch of the third permanent expression in its newly named Provenance Core Range, a collection that celebrates place, craft and the legacy of whisky-making.
Wire Works Port Cask (50.2% ABV) is a single malt English whisky matured in a combination of first-fill Bourbon barrels and fresh Tawny Port barriques.
Nearly eight years ago, White Peak laid down its first casks with a clear vision: to create an English single malt whisky defined by its sense of place and rooted in local provenance and heritage. This month marks another significant milestone in that journey with the release of Wire Works Port Cask.
Since its inception, Port casks have been a carefully selected part of the Wire Works inventory. The distillery has previously released Double Oak Port, Full Port, and a distillery-exclusive hand-fill – all matured in Tawny Port casks and released in limited quantities.
Earlier this year, White Peak ventured into new territory with Port Wine LBV, a release finished in Late Bottled Vintage Port barriques. Each of these casks offered something distinct, but together they have laid the foundation for this latest expression.
Wire Works Port Cask is described as offering aromas of Bakewell pudding, milk chocolate, cinder toffee and candied ginger, leading to flavours of strawberries and cream, marzipan, lemon curd and vanilla fudge on the palate.
This latest release joins Wire Works Caduro – matured in first-fill Bourbon barrels and ex-red wine STR barriques – and Wire Works Bourbon Barrel, matured exclusively in first-fill Bourbon barrels, as part of its Provenance Core Range.
The Provenance Core Range reflects White Peak’s philosophy: a flavour-first approach to whisky-making, rooted in respect for Derbyshire’s industrial heritage and a legacy of innovation. Every aspect of production – from mashing and fermentation to distillation, maturation, and bottling – takes place onsite at the historic Wire Works, underlining the brand’s commitment to full life-cycle provenance.
Commenting on the launch, Max Vaughan, Co-Founder of White Peak Distillery, said: “Almost a decade since we started, it feels like a coming of age to be able to add a third release to our Wire Works Provenance Core Range, which will form the foundation for the future of the distillery alongside Caduro and Bourbon Barrel. Whisky requires long-term attention to detail and an understanding that nothing can be rushed. Our new Port Cask embodies this considered approach, standing proudly alongside our other two core expressions.”
Wire Works Port Cask will be available from 17th October via White Peak’s distillery shop and selected specialist retailers, for a RRP of £65.00.
