Russell’s Reserve has announced the launch of the fourth release in its annual Single Rickhouse Collection.
The latest expression, Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson E (64% ABV), is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon crafted using barrels hand-selected exclusively from the fifth floor of the seven-storey rickhouse.
The Single Rickhouse Collection, which explores the concept of whiskey “terroir” – specifically how the precise location of a rickhouse, often an overlooked detail, can influence a whiskey’s final character – is a testament to Master Distiller Eddie Russell’s decades-long dedication to bourbon, built on nearly 45 years of hands-on experience.
For this year’s release, Russell and his team turned their attention to Camp Nelson E, an iconic rickhouse built in 1946 and nestled deep within the trees on the edge of the Camp Nelson property. This edition offers a markedly different environmental profile from previous releases – shaped by shade, airflow and a cooler, slower ageing process.
Located closer to the Kentucky River than the other rickhouses on the Camp Nelson campus, Camp Nelson E runs North-South along the river, subjecting it to different wind patterns off the river and more consistent shading throughout the year. Its unique positioning, deeper-set on the property, and dirt-floor “basement” level creates one of the coolest microclimates on the grounds – a stark contrast to the sun-drenched heights of Camp Nelson B from last year’s release.
Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson E is said to offer aromas of vanilla, caramel, maple, figs, dried orange peel, cola, and toasted oak. On the palate, it presents notes of dried fruit, cherry, mint, graham cracker, and warming nutmeg spice.
Commenting on the release, Master Distiller Eddie Russell said: “Camp Nelson E is one of the most interesting ageing environments we have—completely different from where we’ve pulled from in the past. The barrels from the fifth floor have this beautiful balance of dark fruit, baking spice, and rich oak that felt true to Russell’s Reserve, but also completely its own. That’s exactly what this series is about: celebrating the uniqueness of each rickhouse and how it helps shape the whiskey we love.”
Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson E is now available from the Wild Turkey Distillery Visitor Centre and select retailers across the US, for a RRP of $300.00.
