The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) has launched a new series of limited-edition whiskies, each inspired by a defining moment from the winter months spanning October to January.

The new SMWS Winter Series comprises four single malt whiskies, each presented with a unique label that celebrates the mischief of Hallowe’en, the warmth of Christmas, the sparkle of Hogmanay, and the tradition of Burns Night.

Hallowe’en: Spirit of Hallowe’en – Cask No. 29.300 (57.5% ABV)
An 11-year-old single malt whisky matured in a second-fill American oak PX hogshead. This expression offers a bold and peaty flavour profile, with a smoky and slightly medicinal character. Notes include pastrami, smoked cheese, and eucalyptus lozenges.

Christmas: Mistletoe and Whisky – Cask No. 1.296 (58.7% ABV)
A 13-year-old single malt matured in a second-fill Spanish oak cask. This whisky has a ripe fruit and honeyed flavour profile, evocative of cigars and martinis, alongside sweeter notes of fruit cake and a bourbon Manhattan.

New Year: We’ll Take a Cup of Kindness Yet – Cask No. 59.85 (56.5% ABV)
A 13-year-old single malt matured in a first-fill bourbon hogshead. The toasted oak and vanilla flavour profile opens unexpectedly with notes of lino cuts and putty, developing into sugared almonds, cinnamon toast, and Jammy Dodgers, with a gently spiced finish.

Burns Night: Sing Thy Name! – Cask No. 39.318 (60.4% ABV)
A 13-year-old single malt Scotch whisky matured in a first-fill bourbon barrel. Also featuring a toasted oak and vanilla profile, this dram delivers lively notes of lemon curd, vanilla custard, sweet nutmeg, and cardamom, balanced by a contrasting finish of bitter orange marmalade and sandalwood.

Commenting on the launch, Euan Campbell, Head of Whisky Creation at SMWS, said: “Winter is when whisky truly comes to life, and our Winter Series features specially selected bottles that each capture those special occasions that bring people together to enjoy a dram. We hope each whisky will take you on a flavour adventure through the colder months.”

Limited to 300 bottles each, the Winter Series releases – Spirit of Hallowe’en, Mistletoe and Whisky, We’ll Take a Cup of Kindness Yet, and Sing Thy Name! – will be available from the SMWS website for the respective RRPs of £89.00, £98.00, £73.50, and £73.50. The complete set is also available for an RRP of £325.00.
