Nikka Whisky has announced the launch of a new limited-edition Nikka From The Barrel release, in celebration of the whisky’s 40th anniversary.

Nikka From The Barrel Extra Marriage (51.4% ABV) is a world blended whisky composed of grain whisky from Nikka’s renowned Coffey stills and malt whiskies sourced primarily from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries.

This special release is said to take the original Nikka From The Barrel and elevate it even further by incorporating a cask marriage period twice as long as the original. The expression was originally created in 1985 by Master Blender Shigeo Sato.

Presented in its distinctive, original square bottle, Nikka From The Barrel Extra Marriage is described as offering aromas of honey, beeswax, tropical pineapple, nutmeg, ginger and subtle smoke. On the palate, it reveals notes of candied lemon, cocoa powder, roasted cereals, plum jam and a hint of salty peat.

Nikka has also unveiled a limited-edition gift set trio featuring Nikka From The Barrel Extra Marriage alongside two of its key component whiskies: Malt Pieces of the Barrel and Grain Pieces of the Barrel. The set is designed as an exploration and immersion into the blend’s composition.

Malt Pieces of the Barrel (58% ABV) delivers bold notes of peat and smoke, layered with malt, herbs, fruit and spice, showcasing the strength and structure contributed by Yoichi and Miyagikyo. A small addition of heavily peated Yoichi whisky aged in new American oak adds depth and a long, satisfying finish.

Grain Pieces of the Barrel (58% ABV) opens with fresh notes of vanilla, fruit, herbs and flowers over a warm, spicy backbone with hints of chilli. A touch of Satsuma Tsukasa’s corn and rye whisky, combined with matured Coffey grain, adds vibrancy and balance.

By combining these three unique expressions, the gift set offers rare insight into the creation of Nikka From The Barrel, allowing whisky enthusiasts to appreciate each component individually before experiencing the harmony of Extra Marriage.
