Ballantine’s has announced the launch of the third release in its limited-edition Masterclass Collection.
Ballantine’s 40 Year Old Masterclass Collection: Chapter Three – The Moment (45.4% ABV) is a blended Scotch whisky that is said to showcase the rich character of the Miltonduff distillery, a cornerstone single malt within the Ballantine’s blend.
The Masterclass Collection, which will culminate in five unique 40 Year Old expressions, pays tribute to the skills and knowledge passed down through generations of Ballantine’s Master Blenders.
This latest chapter, The Moment, stands as a testament to the art of precision and timing in whisky craftsmanship. It reflects the story of how former Master Blender Jack Goudy taught current Master Blender Sandy Hyslop to identify, from hundreds of nosed casks and samples, which were ready to be selected for blending.
Ballantine’s 40 Year Old Masterclass Collection: Chapter Three – The Moment is said to offer aromas of caramelised red apples, juicy oranges, cinnamon-spiced banana loaf, toasted coconut and manuka honey. The palate delivers flavours of freshly baked pear tart, morello cherries, orange zest, vanilla custard, soft fudge and milk chocolate.
Commenting on the launch, Sandy Hyslop, Ballantine’s Master Blender, said: “Crafting a whisky of this age is an exercise in patience, but The Moment speaks to something even more profound: the precise instance when a whisky reaches its absolute peak. It’s about recognising that perfect harmony amidst thousands of casks – a skill Jack Goudy taught me, and one that defines the very soul of Ballantine’s. This release is a tribute to that critical discernment, celebrating the Miltonduff character that shines through and the enduring legacy of those who came before us.”
Limited to 108 bottles, Ballantine’s 40 Year Old Masterclass Collection: Chapter Three – The Moment will be available later this month from specialist retailers, for a RRP of $13,000.
