Glasgow 1770 Ruby Port Cask Finish
Single Malt Scotch Whisky
55% ABV / RRP £57.00

There’s an undeniable energy around the Glasgow Distillery – an almost tangible momentum that has been building since they reignited the city’s whisky-making flame in 2014. In a relatively short time, they have carved out a space that is unmistakably their own: modern in outlook, bold in approach, yet always rooted in a deep respect for tradition and craft.

Released back in July as part of their core range offering, the Glasgow 1770 Ruby Port Cask Finish – a 6 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky, exemplifies the distillery’s ethos in abundance.

Nose: Expressive from the first sniff, it opens with ripe red berries – raspberries and late-summer strawberries – subtly dusted with cocoa powder. A gentle malt richness and soft cereal warmth provide balance and prevent the aforementioned fruit from dominating. Dark cherries, pink peppercorns and whispers of Turkish delight then emerge, adding both depth and finesse.

Palate: The mouthfeel is lively, revealing jammy forest fruits and spiced honey, lifted by a gentle citrus zing. The port cask influence is evident but never overpowering: redcurrant, plum skin and wine-soaked oak, enhancing the distillery’s already generously giving spirit. Layers of milk chocolate, sugared almonds, subtle baking spice and a hint of fresh ginger add structure, warmth and complexity.

Finish: Medium-long and elegant, tapering with dry red fruit, cocoa, spice, light tannins and a lush lingering sweetness.

Summary: The Glasgow 1770 Ruby Port Cask Finish is a whisky that doesn’t demand attention; it earns it, revealing itself layer by layer with quiet confidence. Beautifully balanced and something of a masterclass in how to harness harmonious Port cask influences, it brims with the youthful, urban swagger that has become the distillery’s trademark.
