Fettercairn Distillery has today announced the launch of its inaugural Distillery Exclusive release, created in collaboration with the Laurencekirk-based brewery Six°North.
Fettercairn Distillers’ Secret (54.9% ABV) is a single malt Scotch whisky that is said to underscore the distillery’s close connection with its local community.
Distillers’ Secret is a marriage of two casks. The first is an ex-Cabernet Sauvignon cask from Bordeaux, which arrived at the distillery in 2019 and was used to mature a fruity Belgian-style pale ale produced by the team at Six°North. This cask was then filled with spirit drawn from a refill American oak hogshead containing Fettercairn whisky distilled in 2007. The liquid was transferred into the ex-ale cask and closely monitored throughout maturation. In 2025, this whisky was combined with a 2007 first-fill ex-Bourbon barrel.
Through this collaboration, Fettercairn and Six°North have shared knowledge, explored flavour and developed their craft to create a distinctive single malt—an approach that is expected to inspire future distillery exclusives.
This latest release from the Highland distillery, produced from casks hand-selected by Distillery Manager Stewart Walker and Distiller Bruce Aitken, is said to offer aromas of golden honey, Muscat grapes, sugared almonds and soft patisserie spice. On the palate, it delivers notes of grapefruit, caramelised pecans, passion fruit and mixed citrus peel.
Commenting on the launch, Stewart Walker, Fettercairn Distillery Manager, said: “Fettercairn has always been for those who embrace curiosity and appreciate exceptional flavours, and we’ve been lucky to work with our friends and neighbours at Six°North on a spirit that does just that. Distillers’ Secret is a really special small-batch release, celebrating partnership and provenance as well as offering a delicious dram. Limited to just 318 bottles, this isn’t one you’ll want to miss.”
Limited to 318 bottles, Fettercairn Distillers’ Secret is now available exclusively from the distillery for a RRP of £125.00.
