How long have you been working in the whisky industry?
I have been working in the whisky industry for over 15 years, during which time I’ve gained extensive experience across a variety of roles, including sales, marketing and education.

What has been your biggest career highlight to date?
My biggest career highlight was being part of the team that launched Bowmore ARC 54 earlier this year, culminating in our global launch at the Raffles Hotel in London. Guests were given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to taste one of the oldest Bowmore whiskies ever released. It was a truly memorable occasion and was recognised by The Spirits Business as one of the year’s most unique and memorable experiences.

Can you remember your first dram, and what was it?
Yes, my first dram was a Laphroaig 10 Year Old. I wish I could say I was immediately captivated by its smoothness and complexity of flavour, sparking a lifelong passion for whisky. In reality, I was stunned and bewildered by its savoury, salty and smoky profile, which reminded me of a ham hock in liquid form! At the time, it wasn’t to my taste, so I gravitated towards lighter, unpeated styles before eventually making a successful return to Laphroaig and similar whiskies, once I was able to fully appreciate them. A happy ending — and a full-circle moment — that sees me now proudly representing the brand.

What does whisky mean to you?
Whisky represents a blend of tradition, craftsmanship and most importantly, community. It’s a way to connect with friends and family, celebrate milestones, and appreciate the artistry behind every bottle.

Where would you like to see yourself in five years’ time?
In five years, I hope to be contributing to innovative product development while also helping to mentor the next generation of whisky professionals.

What was your last dram?
My last dram was Bowmore 24 Year Old Dragon’s Prey, part of our Frank Quitely series, enjoyed in front of my fireplace on a chilly evening. Matured in a selection of Bordeaux red wine casks, Merlot-finished barriques, Manzanilla and Oloroso sherry casks, it delivers a rich, fruity profile brimming with sweetness, peat and a long, satisfying finish. It’s the perfect way to unwind.

Do you have a favourite whisky and food pairing?
I love pairing peated whiskies with seafood — it’s a match made in heaven, and ideal for me as I’m virtually pescatarian these days. My favourites would be grilled octopus with Bowmore 15 Year Old Sherry Oak, or pan-fried scallops with Laphroaig 18 Year Old. The smoky notes of the whisky complement the flavour and texture of the seafood beautifully.

What’s your favourite time and place to enjoy a dram?
My favourite time to enjoy a dram is with friends, old and new, discussing the nuances we discover in the glass. Equally, a quiet evening at home can be just as rewarding.

What do you think will be the next big thing on the whisky horizon?
I believe the next big focus will be sustainable whisky production, with more distilleries prioritising eco-friendly practices alongside innovative maturation techniques.

What’s the one dram you couldn’t live without?
The one dram I couldn’t live without is Bowmore 23 Year Old Port Matured. It was love at first sip! A true classic, it never fails to impress with deep notes of red berries, rich and sweet smokiness, marzipan aromas and a hint of mint. Sadly, it’s no longer produced, so I’m carefully nursing my remaining stock of this gem — though I’ll definitely be enjoying a dram or two this Christmas!
