The Speyside-based Glenlivet Distillery has announced the release of three new expressions in its Small Batch Collection series, which are said to invite whisky enthusiasts and collectors to explore the nuanced art of flavour and the remarkable diversity that can be achieved through the combination of different casks.
This limited-edition collection, which is bottled at cask strength, features the same three age statements as the inaugural Small Batch Collection — a 17 Year Old, a 19 Year Old and a 20 Year Old — while showcasing entirely new and exclusive flavour profiles.
Created under the guardianship of The Glenlivet Cask Master, Kevin Balmforth and his team, these meticulously crafted single malts have been designed to highlight specific flavour characteristics while remaining true to The Glenlivet’s classic style. Each expression is bottled at cask strength and non-chill filtered to preserve purity and intensify flavour.
The latest Glenlivet Small Batch Collection releases are comprised of:
The Glenlivet 17 Year Old – 2.1 Wildflower Honey (60.8% ABV)
Exclusively matured in first-fill American oak barrels, this expression is said to deliver aromas of apple rings, boiled lime confectionery, freshly baked shortbread, vanilla pods and marzipan cream, with notes of Highland heather and honeysuckle. The palate follows with baked Granny Smith apples, honeydew melon, lemon drizzle cake, orange marmalade, toasted almonds and ginger spice. Limited to 9,900 bottles.
The Glenlivet 19 Year Old – 2.2 Indulgent Chocolate (56.5% ABV)
Matured in a combination of first-fill American oak, first-fill Sherry and second-fill ex-Scotch whisky barrels, this release offers aromas of blackcurrant coulis, fresh figs, chocolate-covered raisins, treacle tart and dark toffee, complemented by clove and cinnamon spice. On the palate, notes of sultanas, orange zest, chocolate hazelnut cream, ginger snap biscuits, red liquorice, candied walnuts and cinnamon bonbons emerge. Limited to 3,936 bottles.
The Glenlivet 20 Year Old – 2.3 Orchard Fruitiness (50.5% ABV)
Matured in a combination of first-fill American oak, second-fill ex-Scotch whisky and second-fill American oak hogsheads, this expression presents aromas of ripe pears, crisp red apples and sweet cherries, alongside treacle sponge, golden syrup, hints of clove and sweet toasted oak. The palate delivers spiced apple slices, caramelised figs, ripe plums, fresh nectarines and toffee sauce, followed by warming baking spices, notably cinnamon. Limited to 2,736 bottles.
Commenting on the launch, Kevin Balmforth said: “The Glenlivet Small Batch Collection is a celebration of discovery, inviting whisky appreciators and collectors to explore the extraordinary spectrum of flavours that can be achieved through meticulous cask combination. The 17 Year Old opens with bright apple and citrus notes that develop into sweet, floral complexity. The 19 Year Old showcases rich dark fruits and spices, culminating in a sweet, aromatic finish, while the 20 Year Old delivers luscious orchard fruits and warming spices, creating an incredibly syrupy and fruity experience. Together, the collection offers a masterful progression of flavour, allowing specific notes to shine while retaining the inherent character of The Glenlivet.”
The Glenlivet Small Batch Collection 17, 19 and 20 Year Old releases are now available directly from the distillery and selected specialist retailers, for the respective RRPs of €154.00, €220.00 and €300.00.
