The Speyside-based Tamdhu Distillery has announced the launch of its latest annual release celebrating the Chinese New Year.
Tamdhu – Year of the Horse (53.8% ABV) is a single malt Scotch whisky that encapsulates the distillery’s signature all-Sherry maturation style, renowned for its richness and depth.
Bottled in Tamdhu’s classic octagonal bottle, the outer packaging is suitably striking for Chinese New Year. Presented in vibrant shades of red, it depicts a jockey and steed trotting past the Victorian Dalbeallie railway station at Tamdhu Distillery, which still stands today.
The distillery commissioned acclaimed visual artist Page Tsou to create the bespoke illustration, capturing the energy and excitement of the Year of the Horse. Symbolising strength, perseverance and swift success, the horse mirrors Tamdhu’s own dedication to strength of purpose, endurance and bold achievement.
On the nose, Tamdhu – Year of the Horse is said to deliver notes of warming spices, mature oak, dried fruits and honey, followed on the palate by rich oak, ginger biscuits and caramelised pear.
Commenting on the launch, Iain Weir, Brand Director of Tamdhu Whisky, said: “This specially selected, batch-strength bottling captures Tamdhu exactly as our founders intended when they established the distillery on the banks of the River Spey in 1897. Its deep natural colour is gifted solely by sherry casks and time — a perfect toast to determination.”
He added: “In the Year of the Horse, we honour ambition by raising a glass to the legendary eight steeds and blessing the path to success in the year ahead. Guided by our unwavering pursuit of perfection, every drop of Tamdhu is matured exclusively in the finest sherry-seasoned Oloroso casks from Jerez, Spain.”
Limited to just 300 bottles, Tamdhu – Year of the Horse is now available from select specialist retailers, for a RRP of £150.00.
