The Highland-based Glenmorangie Distillery has announced the launch of the oldest whisky in its core range.

Glenmorangie The Thirty (43% ABV) is a 30-year-old single malt Scotch whisky, comprising whiskies matured in ex-Bourbon casks alongside a parcel of rare whisky finished in Burgundy red wine casks.

For more than 180 years, Glenmorangie’s whisky creators have pursued excellence with relentless imagination. Led by Director of Whisky Creation, Dr Bill Lumsden MBE, they distil their spirit in uniquely tall stills to create Glenmorangie’s hallmark elegance. Their mission is to elevate their favourite styles while exploring new possibilities in whisky-making.

To build The Thirty’s character over three decades, Dr Bill draws on his unparalleled knowledge and expertise in wood finishing and cask selection. At the heart of this whisky lies a parcel of rich, berry-forward single malt, finished in Burgundy red wine casks for more than 15 years. Comprising two-thirds of the recipe, it reflects Dr Bill’s affinity for this French wine region and his renowned experimentation with Burgundy casks. He balances the richness of these wine casks with another parcel of Glenmorangie matured entirely in classic ex-bourbon barrels, resulting in a whisky that is both rich and spicy, with hints of the distillery’s signature house style.

Glenmorangie The Thirty is said to deliver notes of chocolate truffles, honeycomb, cherry, raspberry, freshly baked bread, linseed oil and toffee apple on the nose. On the palate, it reveals flavours of ripe peach, apricot, honeydew melon, toffee apple, blackberry and candied orange.

This latest release is presented in a box of rich purple tones, reflecting the luxurious hues of Burgundy red wine. The colour is complemented by copper accents—a nod to the distillery’s uniquely tall stills—and hints of Glenmorangie’s signature orange.

Glenmorangie The Thirty will be available later this month from glenmorangie.com, the Distillery Visitor Centre in Tain and Glenmorangie’s London Heathrow boutique, for a RRP of £740.00.
