The Islay-based Kilchoman Distillery has announced the launch of a new limited-edition release.

Kilchoman The Maury Cask (50% ABV) is a peated single malt Scotch whisky, fully matured in ex-Maury fortified wine casks.

Maury is a sweet fortified wine from the Roussillon region of southern France, made primarily from Grenache Noir grapes.

Kilchoman The Maury Cask is said to offer notes of figs, raisins, dates, salted caramel, orange peel and soft peat smoke on the nose, followed by pipe smoke, dark chocolate, treacle and warming spices on the palate.

Commenting on the launch, Kilchoman Founder Anthony Wills said: “The Maury Cask Matured is a first-ever release for us and something rarely seen on the market. These powerful fortified wine casks can be challenging to manage, but when you get them right, they can produce something truly special. We are known for our full maturation policy across many of our limited editions, and this is another example of that — bringing through all those beautiful Maury flavours in a bold and balanced dram, not to mention the incredible crimson-red hue of the whisky.”

Kilchoman The Maury Cask will be available later this month from the distillery’s website and specialist retailers, for a RRP of £65.00–£70.00.
