Old Forester has announced the launch of its latest 117 Series release, which is said to showcase the concentration of flavour that can emerge from the brand’s unique maturation environments.

Old Forester 117 Series: High Angels’ Share Rye – Batch No. 001 (55% ABV) is a Kentucky Straight Rye Whisky from its collection that highlights distinctive barrel types and reflects Old Forester’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovation.

Due to the effects of heat-cycled warehousing and distinctive barrel maturation conditions, certain barrels occasionally experience an elevated evaporative loss—affectionately referred to as the angels taking more than their fair share. From these rare barrels comes this special rye whisky: a small batch of casks that have developed intensely flavourful and concentrated profiles.

The High Angels’ Share Rye – Batch No. 001 is said to offer aromas of rich chocolate and hazelnut, ripe strawberry and bright herbal notes on the nose, followed by notes of citrus oils, burnt sugar, sandalwood, peppercorn and eucalyptus on the palate.

Commenting on the launch, Caleb Trigo, Assistant Master Distiller, said: “We’re continually amazed by what our warehouses can produce. With High Angels’ Share Rye, the angels clearly left their mark, yielding a rye whisky that’s bold, concentrated, and deeply rewarding. It’s a celebration of both old-world tradition and the serendipitous magic that comes from maturation in motion.”

Old Forester 117 Series: High Angels’ Share Rye – Batch No. 001, is now available directly from the distillery and select retailers in Kentucky, for a RRP of $64.99.
