The Highland-based Loch Lomond Distillery has announced the launch of The Original Series – a trio of single malt whiskies focused on innovation in flavour through expert distillation and maturation.

The Original Series combines one existing single malt from Loch Lomond’s award-winning portfolio, Loch Lomond The Original: Triple Oak, with the addition of two new expressions never previously released by the distillery: Loch Lomond Oloroso: Sherry Cask and Loch Lomond Peated: Rioja Cask. All three whiskies have been bottled at 40% ABV.

Created by Master Blender Michael Henry, The Original Series celebrates Loch Lomond Whiskies’ unique capabilities in flavour creation. Using the distillery’s straight neck stills and traditional swan neck stills, alongside a range of cask finishes, the series delivers distinctive and recognisable flavour profiles.

Loch Lomond The Original: Triple Oak is now presented in newly enhanced packaging, which highlights the impact of cask maturation on the spirit’s signature style of fruit, honey and soft smoke. This classic expression has been carefully matured in three types of American oak cask – first-fill, refill and re-charred – and showcases distillate from both straight neck and traditional swan neck stills.

Loch Lomond Oloroso: Sherry Cask, which is said to reimagine sherry-finished whisky, has been finished for six months in Oloroso Sherry casks. Combining a fruit-forward distillate with this finish, it delivers flavours of vanilla, raisins and brown sugar.

Loch Lomond Peated: Rioja Cask, also finished for six months, this time in Rioja wine casks, showcases the distillery’s innovative approach and expertise in maturation. This new addition pairs a fruit- and smoke-forward whisky with world-famous Spanish red wine casks, creating notes of honey, peach, pear and dark chocolate.

Loch Lomond is the only distillery in Scotland to house both traditional swan neck stills and its unique straight neck stills, making it one of the most innovative producers in the world. It is also one of only four distilleries in Scotland with its own on-site cooperage, where the traditional craft of barrel repair is preserved and passed down through generations.

First opened in 1965, Loch Lomond Distillery has been crafting whisky on the banks of the loch for more than 60 years. Over the past decade, investment in whisky-making innovation and global marketing has propelled the brand to new heights. Loch Lomond was named the fastest-growing top 25 single malt brand in the world in two of the past three years (IWSR).

Commenting on the launch, Michael Henry, Master Blender at Loch Lomond Whiskies, said: “At Loch Lomond, we respect tradition but are not constrained by it, as we forge our own path and explore flavour in our own way. This is what it means to be Scotland’s most agile and versatile Scotch distillery. The release of The Original Series demonstrates our continued growth in non-age-statement expressions, bringing three standout whiskies to retail that showcase our award-winning craftsmanship and commitment to exceptional distillation and maturation.”

Loch Lomond The Original: Triple Oak, Oloroso: Sherry Cask and Peated: Rioja Cask are now available via the distillery website and specialist retailers, for the respective RRPs of £28.00, £31.00 and £31.00.
