Regularly described as one of the most influential figures in the whisky and spirits industry as a whole, Steve Rush is a freelance drinks writer, communicator, consultant, content creator, PR and social media drambassador, who for the last 15 years has passionately promoted and preached the world of whisky and other fine spirits, in his uniquely entertaining and exuberant style.

In 2010, Steve founded The Whisky Wire; a fun, unstuffy and inclusive place on the web for a whole new generation of whisky enthusiasts. Since then, it has become one of the most popular and renowned online destinations for reviews, interviews, tasting events and all things whisky.

In 2014, Steve also launched The Whisky Business, a news site featuring all the latest stories from the worlds of whisky and rum. As of February 2025, the site merged into The Whisky Wire – as part of its relaunch, to create one single source of dramfotainment.

Steve also manages the highly renowned @TheWhiskyWire social media accounts, home to his industry-leading, social-media-based content and events. For the past 14 years, this has included Tweet Tastings — the original series of virtual tastings — which remain the largest in terms of reach and influence. As of 2025, they have evolved into The Whisky Wire Tastings and are now hosted across multiple platforms.

Trusted and experienced to represent the biggest and more established brands in the industry – as well as the smaller and newer kids on the dramming block, Steve has hosted over 300 social media based events and has represented over 180 whisky, rum, gin, brandy, tequila and other spirit category brands.

Steve has worked with a wide range of drinks brands on a freelance basis, consulting on brand and product development, supporting marketing and PR, creating innovative content and advising on social and digital strategy.

Over the last 15 years, Steve has also hosted numerous group and corporate tasting events, along with writing articles for companies including IWSC; Club Oenologique and Virgin Atlantic. He has also judged for industry competitions, including The Spirits Business Scotch Masters, The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Awards and the Rebel Bourbon Cocktail Competition.

In 2020 and 2021, Steve was named the Number One Spirits Influencer by Global Data.
