The Speyside-based Aberlour Distillery has announced the launch of a new limited-edition 50 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky.
Aberlour 50 Year Old (45.2% ABV) is described by the Chivas Brothers-owned brand as a testament to five decades of patient maturation and the meticulous cask selection perfected by generations of distillers. Its character has been further shaped by the careful stewardship of Aberlour’s current Master Distiller, Graeme Cruickshank and his team.
The whisky is said to reveal remarkable depth and complexity. On the nose, soft fruits — including ripe apricot, red apple and pear — mingle with cantaloupe melon, toasted hazelnut and milk chocolate, underpinned by gentle spice and toasted oak. The palate offers sweet and tangy orange marmalade with creamy vanilla fudge, balanced by stem ginger in syrup.
Aberlour 50 Year Old comes housed in a bespoke oak cabinet, handmade by designer John Galvin, renowned for his award-winning contemporary work. Galvin draws inspiration from the very casks that nurtured this precious whisky for half a century. Meticulously constructed from twelve oak staves, each distinctive cabinet is a testament to time-honoured cooperage techniques, with an exterior carved to reflect the ridges and textures of natural bark, telling the story of the wood’s transformation.
Adding to its heritage and collectability, each presentation case includes a unique milled granite plinth, hewn from the stone of the distillery’s historic, decommissioned warehouse. This offers whisky collectors and connoisseurs an opportunity to own a tangible piece of Aberlour history.
Commenting on the launch, Graeme Cruickshank, Aberlour’s Master Distiller, said: “The Aberlour 50 Year Old is more than just a whisky; it’s a living legacy — a culmination of time, nature and the unwavering dedication of our craftspeople. Each drop tells a story of five decades of careful nurturing, reflecting the unique character of our Speyside home and the deep expertise passed down through the distillery’s history. This is truly an expression for those who seek the exceptional and the storied.”
Limited to just 20 bottles, Aberlour 50 Year Old is now available exclusively from The Whisky Exchange, for a RRP of £31,000.
