Orphan Barrel has announced the launch of a 25 Year Old Blended Canadian Whisky, marking the brand’s 25th limited-edition release.
Orphan Barrel Night Sage (45% ABV) is comprised of whiskies distilled in Ontario and Manitoba, and matured in a combination of first-fill oak barrels and re-used barrels, both of which previously held Canadian whisky.
The Orphan Barrel Collection is an initiative dedicated to uncovering and preserving exceptional liquid from barrels that have been ageing within Diageo’s extensive whisky inventory. According to the brand, the project aims to bottle rare whiskies inspired by creativity, quality, good times and great stories.
Like all releases in the Orphan Barrel range, Night Sage is a limited-edition whisky produced in a single exclusive batch. It is said to offer aromas of butterscotch, vanilla and gently toasted oak on the nose, followed by notes of brown sugar, golden toffee, walnut and fig on the palate.
Inspired by the snowy owl, a creature said to reveal itself only to those worthy of its knowledge, the artwork on the Night Sage label reflects themes of patience and wisdom. The design serves as a metaphor for the passage of time and pays tribute to the craft and dedication required to create exceptional whiskies.
Commenting on the launch, Mark Balkenende, Master Blender Canada at Diageo, said: “Night Sage reflects the guiding principle of the Orphan Barrel project: a fundamental respect for time and the patience to allow whiskies to mature under careful supervision until they reach their peak. After 25 years in seasoned oak, this whisky reveals remarkable depth, layered richness and an elegant finish that rewards slow appreciation.”
Orphan Barrel Night Sage is now available from selected specialist retailers across the US, for a RRP of $225.00.
