Mount Gay Rum has announced the launch of two limited-edition, age-stated releases as part of its new Exceptionally Aged Collection. The series is said to celebrate the foresight and dedication of generations of Master Blenders who carefully laid down the spirits that would become tomorrow’s exceptional rums.
Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 15 Year Old (43% ABV) and Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 25 Year Old (47% ABV), both matured exclusively in ex-Bourbon casks, were distilled, matured, blended and bottled entirely at the Mount Gay Distillery in St Lucy, Barbados.
The journey of Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 15 Year Old is said to be a testament to continuous stewardship across generations. It began with former Master Blender Jerry Edwards, who skilfully distilled the rum on a single-column still and carefully laid it down to mature. Responsibility then passed to former Master Blender Allen Smith, before being entrusted to current Master Blender Trudiann Branker. Each meticulously monitored the rum’s evolution over the years. In 2025, Branker brought this shared vision to fruition, crafting a blend that embodies the character of a 15 Year Old Mount Gay rum.
The rum is said to offer aromas of zesty grapefruit, buttery pastry, banana, vanilla, plum, caramel and a hint of cinnamon on the nose, followed by notes of butterscotch, vanilla, caramel, orange zest, cocoa nibs, red plum, banana, citrus, red grapes and a touch of sea salt on the palate.
Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 25 Year Old is said to represent a unique confluence of expertise, having been shaped by three Mount Gay Master Blenders over a quarter of a century. Distilled in 1999 on a single-column still under the watchful eye of then Master Blender Jerry Edwards, its extended maturation was subsequently overseen by his successor, Allen Smith. Current Master Blender Trudiann Branker then guided the spirit to its final expression.
The rum is said to deliver aromas of vanilla, red fruits, rich caramel, citrus and dark chocolate on the nose, followed by notes of raisin, warm cinnamon, tangy citrus, smooth toffee, roasted nuts, orange zest, nutmeg, cocoa and gingerbread on the palate.
Commenting on the launch, Trudiann Branker, Master Blender, said: “The Exceptionally Aged Collection is a profound tribute to our 320-year heritage and to the generations of blenders before me who had the vision to lay down these remarkable rums. With both the 15 and 25 Year Old expressions, we chose to honour that original vision by ageing them exclusively in ex-Bourbon casks, resulting in an intensity and complexity that beautifully reflect the heritage we are proud to uphold. These rums offer a taste as close as possible to what comes directly from the barrel, providing a true representation of our legacy and the unique tropical climate of Barbados.”
Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 15 Year Old (limited to 4,942 bottles) and Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged 25 Year Old (limited to 2,376 bottles) will be available later this month from selected retailers, for the respective RRPs of €85.00 and €215.00.
