The Texas-based Garrison Brothers Distillery has announced the pre-sale launch of its latest limited-edition Hye Rye Bourbon release.

Garrison Brothers Hye Rye 2026 (49% ABV), a Texas Straight Rye Bourbon Whiskey, is said to honour rye’s deep roots in American distilling history. Distilled in America since the late 1700s, rye is often referred to as the “flavour grain”, contributing spice, savoury depth and complexity to whiskey.

Hye Rye, one of Garrison Brothers Distillery’s most sought-after and hardest-to-find releases, first debuted in December 2020 to mark the 87th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition in America and to celebrate founder Dan Garrison’s birthday.

The story of Garrison Brothers Hye Rye began in 2012, when Master Distiller Donnis Todd sourced several hundred bags of organic rye from Justin Crownover’s Lonestar Family Farms in Sunray, Texas. His goal was to create a sweet mash bill comprising 52% South Texas corn, 37% organic rye and 11% barley.

Todd aged the initial test barrels for two years, tasting them at six-month intervals to assess flavour development. Although he was pleased with Hye Rye’s early maturation, he wanted a more robust flavour profile and decided to mature the bourbon for a further five years. In the summer of 2015, Todd and his production team strategically placed 14 barrels in rickhouses across the ranch, allowing the flavours to continue developing.

Garrison Brothers Hye Rye 2026 delivers a richer, spicier take on Texas bourbon. Bourbons made with a higher proportion of rye are celebrated for their bold spice, peppery character and layered complexity, and are often referred to as “high-rye” bourbons. Hye Rye is described as a legendary Texas bourbon with an unmistakable kick.

Commenting on the launch, Donnis Todd, Master Distiller at Garrison Brothers Distillery, said: “When we filled the first Hye Rye barrels, I had no idea it would become one of the most talked-about bourbons we’ve ever made. It tested us from the first grain delivery to the day we finally bottled it, but every obstacle made us more determined to get it right. Bringing Hye Rye back means so much to me. It’s the continuation of a story that’s been years in the making.”

Limited in quantities, Garrison Brothers Hye Rye 2026 will be available from July 27th via the distillery’s website, for a RRP of $99.99.
