The Maison Ferrand-owned Planteray Rum, has announced the launch of a new limited-edition collection that pays tribute to the people who have shaped the brand’s rum journey since its creation in 1999.

Planteray Rum Extreme Series VI: Legends of Rum, which is said to be a collection built not on rarity alone, but on the transmission of knowledge, values and respect between rum-makers, is comprised of six rums from Haiti, Barbados, Fiji, Jamaica, Belize and Saint Lucia.

For more than 35 years, Alexandre Gabriel, Planteray Rum’s Owner & Master Blender, has travelled the world not in search of recipes, but of understanding. He has sought to learn not only how rum is made, but why it is made that way, what history shaped it, who preserved those traditions, and which compromises were never accepted.

Across the Caribbean and beyond, each distillery has its own language of rum-making. Fermentations are adjusted by instinct rather than formula. Stills are understood like living instruments. Barrels are chosen not for certainty, but for potential. These are not techniques that can be easily taught. They are learned through time, proximity and trust.

Released only once every two to three years, the Extreme Series is said to represent Planteray’s most uncompromising expressions. Each rum is drawn from a single, irreplaceable ‘unicorn barrel’ and bottled straight from the cask at natural strength, without reduction.

Planteray Rum Extreme Series VI: Legends of Rum comprises:

Haiti 2009 (43.8% ABV) honours Thierry Gardère and the enduring vision of Rhum Barbancourt, where fresh cane juice, a deep respect for terroir and extended ageing reveal elegance and restraint rather than force. It reflects a friendship that began more than 30 years ago and opened the door to Haiti’s distinctive rum culture. Limited to 816 bottles. RRP: €179.00.

Barbados D.A.S.H. (59% ABV) celebrates Henderson ‘Digger’ Skinner and a legacy spanning generations at Stade’s West Indies Rum Distillery. Digger devoted 45 years of his life to Barbadian rum-making, following in the footsteps of his father, Cleophas Alleyne, who dedicated 47 years before him. Together, they represent 92 years of uninterrupted craftsmanship, with knowledge passed down through presence, patience and practice. Limited to 960 bottles. RRP: €89.00.

Fiji Islands 2007 (57.8% ABV) pays tribute to Soneel Raj, Mike Spencer and the team at Rum Co. of Fiji. Distilled entirely in pot stills, this rum captures the raw, smoky and untamed character of a Pacific terroir that is often overlooked, yet unmistakable. It stands as a symbol of partnership, mutual respect and shared ambition across oceans. Limited to 888 bottles. RRP: €189.00.

Jamaica MMW 1998 (52% ABV) embodies the uncompromising spirit of Vivian Wisdom and the long fermentations that define Jamaica’s legendary high-ester style. Distilled in 1998 at Clarendon Distillery, this iconic MMW (Monymusk Wedderburn) delivers an intense, instantly recognisable profile of ripe tropical fruit, powerful esters and vibrant depth. Bottled at natural cask strength, it stands as a pure expression of Jamaican rum heritage. Limited to 462 bottles. RRP: €249.00.

Belize 2006 (60.4% ABV) honours Romel Perdomo and the quiet continuity of a family tradition shaped by generations of shared expertise. Rooted in a little-known historical connection between Belize and Barbados, this rum reflects precision, balance and the enduring value of collaboration in Caribbean rum-making. Limited to 606 bottles. RRP: €189.00.

Saint Lucia 2009 (55% ABV) is a deeply personal homage to Laurie Barnard – mentor, friend and visionary. Defined by long fermentations and powerful pot still distillation, this rum carries the legacy of a man whose passion, curiosity and generosity helped shape the early philosophy of Planteray Rum. Limited to 462 bottles. RRP: €180.00.

Commenting on the launch, Alexandre Gabriel, Planteray Rum’s Owner & Master Blender, said: “Legends of Rum is the most personal collection I have ever released. Each barrel is tied to a person who shaped my understanding of rum, often simply by sharing time, ideas and trust. This is my way of honouring them and ensuring that what was passed on to me continues to live on.”

Planteray Rum Extreme Series VI: Legends of Rum is now available from selected retailers across Europe, the United States and Barbados.
