The Lynchburg, Tennessee-based Jack Daniel’s Distillery has announced the launch of its latest experimental release.

Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series #17 (69.2% ABV), described by the brand as a batch-proof High Angel’s Share Tennessee Whiskey, was produced using casks selected by Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Taster, Dale McGee.

The latest experimental release begins with traditional Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, which was laid down in 2016. The whiskey matured atop Coy Hill on the top floor of Barrelhouse 1-13, where it underwent a high angel’s share maturation. As the barrels rested in the highest reaches of the barrelhouse, an increased amount of whiskey evaporated, resulting in a uniquely rich concentration of flavours within the remaining spirit.

Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series #17 is said to coat the palate with notes of brown sugar, banana nut bread and a hint of maple syrup, before leading into a long finish with just the right touch of oak and a comforting warmth.

Commenting on the launch, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller, Chris Fletcher, said: “This release is a perfect example of what happens when we let nature take the lead. By resting these barrels on the very top floor of our Coy Hill barrelhouse, the intense heat increased the angel’s share over the years. What’s left behind in the wood is a beautifully concentrated profile that showcases a whole different side of our traditional Tennessee Whiskey.”

Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series #17 is now available exclusively from the distillery, for a RRP of $44.75 – 375ml bottle.
