The Highland-based Dalmore Distillery has announced the launch of the fourth and final release in its limited-edition Cask Curation Series, produced in collaboration with esteemed cask partner Blandy’s Madeira.

The Dalmore Cask Curation Series: The Madeira Cask Edition comprises three single malt Scotch whiskies, aged 30, 34 and 45 Years Old. Each has been finished in a different, hand-selected Madeira Pipe, specifically chosen to accentuate different facets of The Dalmore’s spirit.

This final edition in the Cask Curation Series sees The Dalmore partner with Blandy’s Madeira, which has been creating award-winning wines on the island for two centuries, across seven generations of the same family. Renowned for its uncompromising dedication to traditional production, including the Canteiro ageing process, Blandy’s Madeira is defined by remarkable longevity and depth of flavour.

Madeira wines are renowned for their rich, decadent sweetness, offering far more than a dessert wine. In bringing these two worlds together through precise cask curation, the intention was never to dominate the spirit, but to reveal and enrich what was already waiting within.

Working with Blandy’s Madeira, The Dalmore’s whisky makers selected three distinct styles of Madeira wine, each carrying its own history, depth and character, to demonstrate how these different styles, themselves shaped through decades of maturation, could complement the spirit and reveal new dimensions of The Dalmore.

The Dalmore Cask Curation Series: The Madeira Cask Edition – Aged 30 Years (49.3% ABV) has been matured for 29 years in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, before an eight-month finishing period in a 2010 Terrantez Madeira Pipe. One of Madeira’s rarest traditional styles, Terrantez is elegant and semi-dry in character, with its citrus lift, aromatic spice and refined structure complementing the bright and expressive nature of the mature spirit.

Commenting on the whisky, Dr Kirstie McCallum, Master Blender, said: “A unique expression of The Dalmore bringing to the fore the sweet citrus and nutty notes of the core spirit balanced with an exotic spice. A truly aromatic and complex whisky, with many layers to explore.”

The Dalmore Cask Curation Series: The Madeira Cask Edition – Aged 34 Years (44.5% ABV) has been matured for over 33 years in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, before an eight-month finish in a 2018 Bual Madeira Pipe. Bual is richer and more rounded in style, bringing warmth, layered sweetness and depth, while its generous character complements the broader, more developed nature of this whisky.

The Dalmore Cask Curation Series: The Madeira Cask Edition – Aged 45 Years (40.7% ABV) is the oldest expression in the trio, and the oldest bottling across the Cask Curation Series. Matured for 44 years in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, this whisky was enriched by a three-month finish in a 2012 Malvasia Madeira Pipe. The richest and most decadent traditional style of Madeira, Malvasia delivers dark fruit richness, luxurious texture and lingering spice.

Commenting on the whisky, Dr Kirstie McCallum, Master Blender, said: “A classic expression of The Dalmore, bold dried fruit, spiced orange, dark chocolate, toffee and a hint of liquorice. This expression was closely nurtured through its finish to reach the pinnacle of balance between the aged sweet Malvasia and the rich 45-year-old Dalmore. A true expression of whisky-making artistry.”

First launched in 2023, the Cask Curation Series showcases The Dalmore’s heritage and artistry in multi-cask maturation, enabled by its treasured, exclusive relationships with cask partners, each a producer of some of the world’s finest wines. The Series also honours and evokes the spirit of travel, a passion point for The Dalmore consumer, highlighting the journey of the casks from wineries and bodegas around the globe to The Dalmore distillery in the Scottish Highlands.

Limited to just 150 sets, The Dalmore Cask Curation Series: The Madeira Cask Edition will be available later this month from selected specialist retailers, for a RRP of £37,350.
