MGP Ingredients, one of the largest producers of American whiskey, has announced the launch of its first release under its own name. The launch coincides with the return of the MGP Distillery name to its historic Lawrenceburg, Indiana, operation, marking a new chapter for the distillery.

MGP Chapter One: Out of the Shadows (55.5% ABV) is a 10 Year Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey, produced using a mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley. It was matured in American oak barrels which were aged in Rickhouse G, one of the distillery’s most celebrated warehouses.

As one of the largest American whiskey producers, MGP has crafted spirits for hundreds of acclaimed brands and has long been recognised by retailers and distributors as a mark of quality. The company also owns the Luxco portfolio of brands, which includes Remus, Rebel, Ezra Brooks, Blood Oath and Yellowstone Bourbons.

The inaugural namesake release is said to deliver notes of butterscotch, burnt sugar, molasses and cherry on the nose, followed by notes of cherry cola, raspberries, chocolate, sassafras and leather on the palate.

Commenting on the launch, Julie Francis, President and CEO of MGP Ingredients, said: “The MGP name has built incredible equity over generations because of the quality of the products we make and the people behind them. We’ve been making whiskey and spirits that others have proudly put their names on for decades. Bringing the MGP name back to the distillery and launching MGP Chapter One: Out of the Shadows is an exciting opportunity to share that story directly with consumers.”

Limited in quantity, MGP Chapter One: Out of the Shadows will be available from selected retailers across the US this autumn, for a RRP of $69.99.
