The Highland-based Dalmore Distillery, has announced the launch of a new permanent addition to its much-revered Cigar Malt range, which first launched more than two decades ago.

The Dalmore Cigar Malt Signature Reserve Aged 18 Years (46% ABV) is a single malt Scotch whisky, initially matured for 16 years in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels before being finished in a combination of specially selected Matusalem Sherry casks, French oak Marsala casks, French oak Cabernet Franc barriques and French oak Cabernet Sauvignon barriques.

This latest iteration of the Cigar Malt comprises casks that have been carefully and intentionally selected to ensure every element plays a defining role in the final whisky. It is said to offer an elevated choice for consumers who enjoy a red wine-influenced flavour profile from The Dalmore, coupled with the depth and complexity delivered through its expertise in multi-cask maturation.

The American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels provide sweetness and lift at the foundation of the whisky. Matusalem Sherry casks bring depth, dried fruit and nutty richness that anchor the profile, while Marsala casks introduce ginger warmth and spice, keeping the finish active and expressive over time, as well as contributing a palate-filling texture.

From the red wine casks, Cabernet Franc adds aromatic nuance and subtle savoury complexity, helping to define the darker flavours and keep the whisky precise rather than heavy, while Cabernet Sauvignon contributes tannin and structure.

This latest release is said to deliver aromas of chocolate orange, dried fig and dark fruit, balanced with hints of aromatic oud and sandalwood. On the palate, it is said to offer notes of forest berries and sticky dates, balanced with orange marmalade, dark chocolate and cinnamon spice.

The Dalmore Cigar Malt Signature Reserve Aged 18 Years, will be available later this month from the distillery’s website and selected specialist retailers, for a RRP of £299.00.
