Isle of Mull Cheese, has announced the launch of its Hebridean Cream Liqueur, created, distilled and bottled at the family-run Sgriob-ruadh Dairy Farm and Distillery on the Isle of Mull.
Isle of Mull Hebridean Cream Liqueur (17% ABV) has been made using aged spirit produced from the whey left over from the farm’s renowned cheesemaking process. This ‘whey-ski’ is then blended with silky cream made from the farm’s milk and aged with oak to create a smooth cream liqueur.
Created by Lily Reade, granddaughter of Isle of Mull Cheese founder Chris Reade, the Hebridean Cream Liqueur is said to offer notes of caramel, toasted nuts, vanilla and cocoa.
The bottle design features unique prints made using materials gathered from Sgriob-ruadh itself, including cow hair, leaves and foliage. These materials were raku-fired onto tiles to create the original textures and markings used in the design, resulting in a distinctive keepsake celebrating the farm, its animals and the landscape behind the liqueur.
Commenting on the launch, Lily Reade, said: “I’ve grown up watching my family make something from whatever the farm and the island give us. Whether it was milk from the cows or rhubarb from the plentiful patches growing on the land, very little went to waste – there was always an idea to turn it into something we could eat, drink or share with others. This ethos extends to our production processes, which are fully powered by sustainable energy generated using island resources.”
“That way of thinking has always stayed with me, so, in partnership with my family, we created Isle of Mull Hebridean Cream Liqueur, a product that brings together so many aspects of what we do here. It uses the whey left over from our cheesemaking to create the spirit, which is then blended with cream from our cows. This brings together our expertise in several areas to create a liqueur that we believe will appeal to people around the world.”
Limited to 600 bottles, Isle of Mull Hebridean Cream Liqueur is now available to pre-order ahead of its release on October 27th via the Isle of Mull Cheese website, for a RRP of £29.99. The first 100 bottles will come in a homemade gift bag.
