The Tennessee-based Chattanooga Whiskey, has announced the launch of its first Tennessee whiskey following more than a decade of distilling and over 50 experimental releases.
Bad Chattanoogan (50% ABV), which is being released as two vinyl-inspired blends, has been produced using three high-malt mash bills comprising primarily Tennessee-grown grain. The whiskey was mellowed through sugar maple charcoal and matured for more than four years in oak barrels, before being finished with toasted maple wood records.
Thirty records were cut from solid sugar maple, toasted for 24 hours, laser-engraved with two original tribute songs about Chattanooga, and placed inside the barrels with the whiskey for 30 days. The songs were written by Chattanooga Whiskey’s Creative Director and Dollars Family frontman, Rich Abercrombie. Unlike most music-themed whiskeys, the music did not simply inspire this release – it literally flavoured it.
The vinyl theme runs from cover to cover. The whiskey comprises two blends, Side A and Side B, each finished with its own song. Although the blends are sold separately, every bottle comes with a playable 4-inch Tiny Vinyl hangtag featuring both tracks.
Bad Chattanoogan Side A is said to offer notes of sweet tea, banana bread, chocolate-covered dried cherries and toasted maple granola. Side B, is said to deliver notes of apple crisp, crème brûlée, dark brown sugar, toasted walnut and mulling spices.
Available in limited quantities, Bad Chattanoogan will be available later this month via seelbachs.com and from selected retailers in Tennessee, for a RRP of $64.99 per bottle.
